Elon Musk, the wealthy businessman who owns the X platform, Tesla and Space
Speaking on comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast, Musk said that some people could use technology to end humanity to protect the planet.
Musk made this statement before the artificial intelligence meeting to be held in England.
But many experts said such warnings were excessive.
Nick Clegg, former British Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Global Affairs at Meta, owner of Facebook and Instagram, stated that current problems are being ignored due to too much focus on what artificial intelligence might look like in the future.
Clegg explained that “speculative and sometimes futuristic predictions should not be allowed to overshadow more near-term issues.”
Elon Musk said that he made this statement because the environmental movement “went too far”.
“If you start thinking people are bad, the natural conclusion is that they should die,” Musk said. “If artificial intelligence is programmed by extinctionists, its primary function will be the extinction of humanity, and they won’t even think it’s bad,” he said.
While few agree with Musk’s comments about the threats of artificial intelligence, many people agree on its potential dangers.
Speaking before the summit, Demis Hassabis, one of the founders of Google Deepmind, one of the UK’s largest artificial intelligence companies, stated that the “Move quickly and break the rules” mentality identified with Silicon Valley should be avoided.
Hassabis said, “This approach has been very successful in building giant companies and providing us with great services and applications. But artificial intelligence is very important. “There is still much work to be done to ensure that we understand artificial intelligence systems and implement them safely and responsibly,” he underlined.
Hassabis explained that one of the biggest risks that artificial intelligence can bring is disinformation, deepfakes and malicious actors’ intentional misuse of the technology.
Today and tomorrow, 100 leaders, technology moguls, academics and artificial intelligence researchers from around the world will meet at Bletchley Park. Bletchley Park was where the scientists who helped achieve victory by breaking Nazi codes in the Second World War worked.
At the summit, studies will be initiated on how the benefits of artificial intelligence can be used in areas such as discovering new drugs and combating climate change, and how the risks can be reduced.
